4.2 Cleaning Steel and Cast Iron
Application:
Removing oxidation (rust), scale, oil and non-rust coatings from steel and cast iron.
Current method:
Items are media blasted, wire brushed, or scrubbed with chemical solvents.
Dissatisfactions:
Contamination from blast media, safety hazard of wire brushing and the cost and liability of chemical and contaminated wastes.
Benefits of CRYONOMIC® cleaning:
A good application for CO2 cleaning. Cost savings are generated by virtually eliminating the cost and liabilities of chemicals and contaminated waste disposal and eliminating the contamination from blasting media. Oxidation (rust) removal rate may vary with different iron and steel. Heavy scaled rust is removed but surface remains discoloured and still be oxidised. Light rust (orange, flash-rust) is easily and completely removed.
